What Happens During a Root Canal?
First, a local anesthetic is applied so that you don’t feel any pain during the actual treatment. (You might feel some soreness afterwards, but this can be dealt with via painkillers.) Once we’ve made an opening in the tooth, we can clean out the infected portions and remove the pulp. After making sure the center of the tooth is now clear of bacteria, we can fill the area with biocompatible material. Depending on how weakened the tooth is, we’ll likely need to place a crown as the last step.
